YPs join the World Bank Group on an initial two-year term contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. During their first two years, they have the unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and experience through rotational assignments across the World Bank Group.

Additionally, YPs take part in a structured learning and talent development journey through their YP Academy. Key elements include technical and operations training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. YPs also receive one-on-one coaching, connect with mentors, and engage in strategy-focused dialogues with senior leaders.

What you will bring

• Minimum of a Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Management, Agricultural/Irrigation Engineering, Economics, Public Policy, or Institutional Development 
• 2–6 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: urban water supply, sanitation, wastewater, and reuse, irrigation and drainage systems (surface and groundwater), water resources management (river basins, transboundary cooperation, flood/drought risk) 

Strong understanding of: 

• Water policies, regulations, and institutional frameworks 
• Infrastructure design, modernization, and service delivery models 
• Financing mechanisms: PPPs, blended finance, carbon markets, microfinance, bonds 
• Water accounting, productivity assessment, and performance-based contracting 

Expertise in:

• Hydro-informatics, AI, machine learning, and remote sensing 
• Data governance, analytics, and protection regulations 
• Integrated planning and implementation of water solutions 
• Nature-based solutions, biodiversity, and climate adaptation 
• Analyze complex water systems and contribute to policy development 
• Synthesize information and support strategic analytics 
• Apply digital innovation to enhance water management outcomes
