External and Corporate Relations Vice-Presidency (ECR)

The mission of External and Corporate Relations (ECR) is to help deliver financial and political support for the World Bank Group, strengthen the Bank Group’s role as a global thought leader in development by enhancing and safeguarding its reputation, and supporting operational teams to achieve country outcomes. ECR manages corporate communications and global engagement with key stakeholders, including media, civil society, foundations, private sector, donor countries, and international organizations, as well as employee engagement. ECR also manages strategic communications for the World Bank’s Regions and Global Practices and leads the management of reputation risk. 

Department context:

ECR’s Media and Messaging Team (ECRMM) is looking for an experienced writer to produce a variety of high-quality copy under tight deadlines, including talking points, remarks, messaging, and other communications products. This includes generating original content, editing and polishing material produced by colleagues across the WBG, and ensuring all products are consistent with corporate voice and priorities. S/he will be based in the World Bank’s Washington, D.C., office, and will report to the Manager of Media and Messaging and work closely with ECRMM’s two senior writers.

Responsibilities:

•Write, edit, and revise major communication pieces, including talking points, remarks, executive blogs and op-eds; forewords and executive summaries of major reports, and messages to staff for senior management.

•Liaise with other communications professionals and staff from across the WBG to get content as needed. 

•Provide editorial guidance around key corporate initiatives, campaigns, and events.

•Provide cross-support to other communications teams to ensure consistency of voice and style. 

•Liaise with other World Bank Group organizations, including IFC and MIGA, to ensure key communications are consistent with World Bank Group messaging and editorial standards.

•Work with ECRMM team to identify the most effective tools to reach specific audiences and stakeholders and contribute to priority messaging.

Selection Criteria

•Master’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, international relations, public affairs, or other related field, with 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

•Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and exceptional ability to write, edit, communicate, and operate under pressure and tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. 

•Good knowledge of international development.

•Self-motivated and creative, with excellent project management and organizational skills, proven ability to perform multiple tasks, and ability to work with both internal and external colleagues.

•A sharp analytical mind, good political judgment and diplomatic skills, proven ability to work across teams and issues, and strong initiative, energy, and drive for results. 

•Knowledge of digital platforms, including across social media, and the ability to present data and ideas visually. 

•Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working across boundaries, and with multiple stakeholders, in building collaborative alliances for results.

•A commitment to teamwork and fostering a positive work culture through integrity, inclusion, and professionalism.
