The Global Energy (CEMEN) unit, in collaboration with the regional industry groups, is responsible for IFC's energy business, including power generation, midstream energy infrastructure, and transmission and distribution. CEMEN is looking to recruit an Investment Officer to contribute to CEMEN’s priorities related to sector strategy and expertise, knowledge sharing, market creation and innovation, decision-making process and commercial relationships, business development and transaction execution with Global Clients.

Duties and Accountabilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Work closely with global sector leads and technical specialists to support business development, project structuring and execution
• Support senior team members and management in the development and implementation of energy sector and sub-sector business strategy; maintain a strong grasp of pivotal areas in the energy sector, for example: (i) trends in renewables; (ii) climate financing; and (iii) innovations such as green hydrogen and storage technologies
• Support senior team members in respect of market and regulatory aspects
• Take initiatives and contribute to knowledge relevant to business development, market creation, innovation, project structuring, and risk management in the energy sector
• Contribute to execution of select investment transactions, including origination and processing, as a member of the project team
• Overall, the candidate is expected to share time and effort across: (i) global knowledge for business; (ii) sector work (market intelligence, strategies, business development, portfolio reviews, etc.); (iii) cross-cutting themes related to the energy sector (climate finance, carbon credits, energy transition, etc.); and (iv) transaction support and processing.

Selection Criteria

• Master's degree in finance, economics, energy, or similar relevant education
• 5+ years of professional energy sector experience working in the public and/or private sector in developing countries
• Strong understanding of energy markets, operations, regulatory economics, subsectors, technologies (including renewable energy, gas-to-power, transmission & distribution) and key players within the energy sector
• Proven ability and interest in understanding and synthesizing energy sector dynamics, challenges, and opportunities with active engagement in knowledge creation and dissemination
• Knowledge of project finance documentation and experience in assessing project finance risks
• Strong quantitative skills with significant experience in financial modeling and analysis
• Strong writing and presentation skills, with contributions to publications on energy
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries
• Highly motivated and proactive; committed to highest ethical standards
• Interest in the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy, and values
• Fluent in English; other languages are a plus.
